Evening Wear Cleaning

Get party ready….

Evening wear can present issues when dry cleaning. Delicate fabrics, layers, pleats and beading all offer their own risks and challenges. At Peters’ Cleaners we have nearly 60 years of experience of cleaning dinner jackets, dresses and kilts and offer 3 cleaning processes: dry cleaning, wet cleaning and washing. We can therefore guarantee the best results.

Womenswear

Often made of delicate fabrics, evening dresses and cocktail dresses need special care.

Common stains include alcohol and food and we take the care to pre-treat all marks to ensure the best chance of removing it. Once cleaned, all items are carefully pressed to ensure the dress is presented back to its owner in the best possible condition.

Wraps, shawls, handbags and fabric shoes can also be cleaned. We even do Jimmy Choos!

Menswear

Crisp straight creases on trousers and well pressed dinner jackets are one of our trade marks. Mess kits, tails, morning suits and kilts are also regularly cleaned by us.

We carefully work on any mark or stain, dry-clean and then hand-finish. Pressing inside and out ensures pockets and linings are not creased.

All suits are returned on suit hangers that keep the jackets in shape.

 

Laundry

Washing machine broken?

Laundry is one of our specialities so if you don’t have a washing machine, your machine has broken or you just have too much laundry bring it to us.

We offer 2 services:

Service wash
This is our wash and fold service. You check pockets and separate the items into the loads you want. We wash, dry and fold them. We have 3 charges – small, medium and large depending on the weight of the bag.

Our standard turnaround is 2 days but if you bring your washing to us by 9am we can get it back to you on the same day although additional charges will apply.

Individual items

Some items need more special attention. They may be designer, delicate or be heavily soiled or you may just want to have them pressed. For a professional wash and press bring them to us. We always follow the advice on the care label and if we think an additional process will improve the quality of the finish we will discuss this with you.

Bedding

Washing and pressing of bed linen.

Ensuring bed linen is clean, fresh and well pressed can be difficult at home. Peters’ Cleaners washes and presses sheets to a professional standard giving your bedding that hotel-crisp finish.

All our bedding is washed in professional grade detergent that is kind to the fabric but removes stains and prevents white sheets from developing that yellow tinge. If you have blood or other stains on your bedding we will pre-treat to give the best chance of it being removed.

Our bedding is pressed on a professional linen press giving a crisp finish to sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases. Items are then folded and wrapped so they are delivered back to you in the best condition they can be.

If you don’t want your linen wrapped in plastic, you can invest in one of our linen bags. You can use them to drop your dirty linen off in and we will return your clean linen to you in the same bag.

Most people change their bedding weekly so our standard turnaround is 5 days. If you need bedding more quickly then please ask for our express service. We also offer a press only service if you want to wash your sheets at home.

Curtains/Rugs

Curtains come in different sizes and thicknesses but we have exceptional experience in cleaning all types of them. We are also the only dry cleaner in the Stamford and Peterborough area to present them pressed and ready to hang after a thorough deep clean process.

Health experts recommend that curtains are cleaned every few years at least. They can trap airborne dust, odours, hairs, smoke and dead skin particle. These can cause allergic reactions including eczema, dermatitis, asthma, dry coughs and hay fever. Removing the dust also brings a curtain back to life enhancing their colour.

What your should know about Curtains

Did you know that the first time they are cleaned, curtains are likely to shrink by 3%? Most are made with a shrinkage allowance, but if they do shrink, Peters’ Cleaners can stretch them back for you.

Blackout lining or plastic backed lining can shred when either washed or dry cleaned. The backing is attached to the lining using an adhesive and over time the sun can degrade the adhesive. This means when washed or dry cleaned the plastic backing flakes off. If we think there is a risk of this we will let you know.

Always have all curtains in a set cleaned at the same time. Removing the dust will brighten the curtain and they will look different when hung together if they are not all cleaned.

You can park outside both our shops to drop off so no need to struggle down a High Street with your large curtains.

Getting your rugs cleaner.

Rugs get dirty and as such should be regularly cleaned to keep them looking at their best. They also trap airborne dust, odours, hair, smoke and dead skin particles which can cause allergic reactions such as eczema, dermatitis, asthma, dry coughs and hay fever.

Our specialist cleaning equipment helps us get deep into the fibres, lifting out the dirt and dust. This ensures a thorough clean. Thin pile light coloured rugs often suffer from heavy staining. At Peters’ Cleaners we treat all the stains to ensure items are returned in the best possible condition.

Rugs also attract smells. Smells are notoriously hard to get rid of but we do treat every rug we clean to give the best chance of it smelling fresh again.

We don’t like to rush our cleaning process as we often clean twice. To ensure the best results allow a week for a deep clean and thorough airing.

Both our shops are easily accessible and you can park outside to drop off so no need to have to carry a heavy rug down a High Street.

Duvet & Pillow Cleaning

Duvets and pillows along with eiderdowns, bedspreads and mattress toppers probably don’t fit in your washing machine. Peters’ Cleaners has large industrial machines so we can freshen up you bedding at the end of each season.

Your bed can harbour dirt, dust and pests so a seasonal wash of your duvet and pillow is recommended. Duvets can also harbour smells so if you child has been sick or your cat has urinated on your bed, bring it to us as soon as you can.

We wash polyester and feather duvets and pillows. We also clean wool and silk duvets. All our duvets are returned in breathable storage bags so you can store your clean summer duvet over the winter and vice versa.

We are often asked if we dry clean duvets. We prefer not to. Dry cleaning uses a chemical called perc and whilst we clean and service our machine regularly, there remains a small risk of some of the residue remaining in your bedding. For health reasons therefore we prefer to launder them.

Wedding Dress Cleaning

Wedding dresses hold treasured memories and at Peters’ Cleaners we treat each dress with the love and respect it deserves.

Often made of delicate fabrics with lace, beading and layers, wedding dresses cannot just be thrown into a machine. We hand treat every dress where needed before putting it through a delicate cycle. We then go over the dress with a fine toothcomb ensuring every mark we see is removed to the best of our ability.

Peters’ Cleaners has been cleaning wedding dresses since 1963. We have the experience to clean any type of wedding dress including those without care labels. We recommend that dresses are cleaned as soon after the special day as possible. Stains can set in and be more difficult to remove the older they are.

To ensure the dress is as fresh in 20 years as it is the day you collect it from us deliver each dress back packed in a breathable hand made storage box from The Empty Box Company. The dress is wrapped in acid free tissue paper and the box secured with a satin ribbon.

We can also clean your veil, wedding shoes and bridesmaids dresses and of course the mother of the bride’s outfit.

Repairs & Alterations

We offer a full range of repairs and alterations that are done by our in-house seamstress Lily Sinclair. All repairs and alterations come back pressed and ready to wear and we can clean them as well.

Lily Sinclair has over 30 years of experience and her skills range from replacing buttons to tailoring wedding dresses, lining curtains and she makes clothes and curtains too!

Lily is based at our Millfield shop in Peterborough and should customers require a tailoring service they can arrange to make an appointment with her.

If we note the item you have brought us to clean requires a repair then we will call you to see if you would like us to carry the repair out. If you have an designer item with a moth hole or cigarette burn ask about our invisible repair service.

Due to the huge variety of zips and buttons out there, if you need a replacement you can bring your own. That way we know we can get it right. Alternatively we can source one that  is as close a match as possible for you.

All alterations and repairs are ready to collect within a week. A guide to our pricing can be found on our price list but prices may vary depending upon the item being repaired and the work involved.

Shirt Service

Like your shirt to look clean and crisp? Hate washing and ironing it? Then let us professionally wash or dry clean and then press your shirts to ensure they look clean and crisp every time you wear them. We can also replace or secure loose buttons.

The cost of washing and ironing a shirt starts at £3.55 but we offer discounts of up to 20% for multiple shirts. We also offer a press only service.

At Peters’ Cleaners we take pride in ensuring every shirt we wash is returned to you is in the best condition it can be on time, every time. We always clean according to the care label but occasionally, to get the best result, we may want to use a second process. If so, we’ll call you for permission.

We prepare each item to ensure the best result. Dirty collars and cuffs are pre-treated to ensure the best chance of removing in-ground dirt. We pre-spot food stains that our professional detergents or dry cleaning will not remove. Persistent, stubborn stains are treated multiple times and if we believe a second process will improve its appearance we do so at no additional cost.

Once we are satisfied your shirt is clean then we press it to a highly professional standard. Collars and cuffs are pressed using specialist equipment that avoids any ‘shine’ effect. We ‘blow press’ our shirts when wet using a specialist hot air press to ensure a professional finish.

All shirts are returned on specially designed hangers to minimise creasing and hand finished if required to give the best possible result. Every shirt we clean passes through a quality control stage before being returned to you.

Dry & Wet Cleaning

What are dry cleaning and wet cleaning?
